About Barefoot Offshore Sailing School

BAREFOOT OFFSHORE SAILING SCHOOL

Our sailing school, “B.O.S.S.”, is the only sailing school in St Vincent & The Grenadines, the most active American Sailing Association (ASA) affiliate  in the southern Caribbean, and a subsidiary of Barefoot Yacht Charters, whose principals  have been sailing the waters of this region for 5 generations (and one of whom, right on site, is a former America’s Cup sailor and professional racing yachtsman).

This background gives us the distinct and unusual advantage of insight and local knowledge that most Caribbean sailing companies, no matter how experienced, simply cannot offer.

2016 is the year that celebrated BOSS’s 20th anniversary.  Hundreds of guests (the youngest 10, the oldest 81) have gained their ASA certifications through our school – many have gone on to purchase yachts and place them in our fleet, and some were so enamoured with their experience that they purchased their own properties within site of our marina!

We have a full-service marina which we designed, built and own ourselves – everything from one of the most popular ocean-view restaurants on the island, Driftwood, to our boutique hotel (Barefoot Suites), a water-sports and training centre, a full-service sail loft and canvas shop, and engineering workshops where we can carry out all maintenance tasks, even total engine re-builds.

How to Get Here -

Most guests arrive by international flight landing in St Lucia or Barbados, and then take an inter-island connection to St Vincent – about 25 minutes from St Lucia or 40 minutes from Barbados.

Routes -

SVG Air has daily flights (excluding Wednesdays) from St Lucia UVF directly to St Vincent SVD.   The flight (# 642) leaves St Lucia at 4.15 p.m. and arrives in St Vincent at approximately 4.40 p.m.  For those whose international schedules allow, this is probably the best connection to St Vincent and the one which arrives earliest in the day.  On the return leg, the flight (# 641) departs St Vincent at 10.00 a.m., arriving at St Lucia UVF at approximately 10.25 a.m.

Alternatively, Barbados BGI is a good transit airport as there are regular non-stop flights to St Vincent.

From North America, there are daily non-stop flights to St Lucia UVF and Barbados BGI from New York JFK, Miami MIA and Toronto TOR

From Europe, the best route is usually from London LGW to Barbados BGI (British Airways and Virgin Atlantic fly daily), then connecting to St Vincent SVD.

Both from North America and from Europe, Trinidad POS is another possible hub, though note that this route may require guests to overnight there either on the way out or on the way home and there have also been instances of the connecting flight from Trinidad to St Vincent being cancelled.

Other possibilities from Europe would be from Paris PAR or Amsterdam AMS to St Maarten SXM, connecting to St Vincent SVD with LIAT

San Juan SJU is a possible hub, but the cost is likely to be higher than routing via Barbados BGI

If flying via St Lucia, remember that there are two airports there.  Most international flights arrive at and depart from Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) but check with your airline to be sure, as UVF is an expensive, one-hour taxi ride from the other airport, George Charles SLU.

St Vincent’s International Airport -

Is scheduled to open sometime in 2018….

Ferries -

Despite some web sites advertising a ferry service, there are currently (December 2016) NO international ferry services to or from St Vincent

When You Arrive -

If you’ve notified us of your flight details and arrival time, we’ll be happy to send a taxi to meet you at St Vincent’s E.T.Joshua Airport. The ride to our base takes about 15 minutes and costs $ 4 per person (minimum 4 person charge).  Someone will be here to meet you at our marina and settle you into your shore accommodation
